Living with Chamberlain: Art in Residence offers an intimate portrait of the artist’s legacy, featuring a foreword by Rick Owens and a series of conversations with family, friends, gallerists, and collectors. This personal volume reveals how Chamberlain’s art has touched the lives of many—mirroring the eclecticism of his own creative spirit.

 

John Chamberlain (1927–2011) is celebrated for his prolific output and groundbreaking sculptures that defied convention. The stories shared throughout the book offer unexpected glimpses into the way his work continues to resonate: collectors Bruce and Barbara Berger recall trading a refrigerator for a Chamberlain sculpture in 1972; Yvonne Force Villareal recounts meeting her husband, artist Leo Villareal, at an exhibition of Chamberlain couches; fashion designer Matthew Williams and artist Solange Knowles reflect on Chamberlain’s creative influence; and Vera Wang shares the story of an unusual friendship sparked by a chance encounter at MoMA.
